“Are you just going to sit there and stare at me the whole ride? What was the point of you hitching a ride with me?” I asked, eyes on the road as I navigated the streets of our city in my Jag, affectionately named Bianca London by me. It was my first luxury car and I was in love with it.

We were on our way to a Sistahs with Choices meeting, and Nadia had asked to ride with me.

“I didn’t feel like driving, and you know Brooklyn doesn’t go to these meetings anymore.”

“Really, Nadia? Seriously?”

“Look, you’re my friend, and I wanted to ride with you but what exactly am I supposed to say right now? I mean, you obviously have an issue with being around me...”

I sighed. “I’m sorry, Noddy, but I just couldn’t make it to lunch.”

“Why, and don’t tell me any bullshit about a meeting. If you had a meeting, you wouldn’t have made plans to have lunch with me in the first place.”

Blowing out a breath, I glanced over at my pretty friend with the growing belly and rounder face. “Okay...there’s a man, a guy I’ve been seeing.”

“What????!!! For how long? Who is it? Where’d you meet him? On the app?”

“Damn, slow down! It’s... please don’t think I’m crazy when I tell you this.”

“Really, Shar? Are you gonna act like you don’t know about my upbringing, i.e., my mother?”

“Right. So, I dreamed about him months before I met him. That’s why I was asking about dreams, wondering your take on them because I didn’t understand how this could be real, how I could see him in my dreams, love him in my dreams, and then meet him and feel the same way.”

“You...you think you love this man?”

“Girl, I know I do, and I also know that’s crazy. I only met him at the beginning of the semester.”

“What’s his name?”

“Jovani Higgs. He’s Renee’s stepson.”

“What?! Wow! I didn’t know Lorenzo had adult kids. I mean...he is an adult, right?”

“Bitch, fuck you.”

She giggled. “Just making sure.”

“Just like you need to make sure you fuck yourself. He and I are the same age, trick. Evidently, Lorenzo was a teenage father.”

“Again, wow! I bet he’s handsome.”

“Girl! Just like his daddy. I mean, he is just like him—big and fine, his presence fills the room, but he still manages to be kind of quiet and brooding. And he has this hair that’s so gorgeous. He’s a little less imposing than his father though. And he’s so talented. He’s a photographer and is Romey’s artist in residence this year. He’s just...I don’t know. I love being with him, love how his body feels close to mine in bed, and the dick? Noddy, I’ve never experienced anything like it. It’s like the man owns my soul or something.”

When she didn’t respond, I glanced over at her to see that she was smiling at me. “What?” I asked.

“It’s just that, I’ve never seen you like this about any man, not even Ten-inch Tyson from undergrad.”

“Daaaamn, I forgot about him.
